The government is supposedly there to serve the people, and when service to the people is interrupted or become problematic, things must be done to solve the situation, same with erring multi-million businessmen.. so far, President Duterte has made moves in castigating businessmen who are not playing by the rules – the right and most appropriate rules as can be seen in the news. Not everyone is happy with the way he does things but at least some things get done.
For example, when people complained about alleged pilferage’s in airports, he immediately punished the operator – MIASCOR. While to some this maybe a harsh punishment but to a lot, public service must not be inconvenienced. So
Gov’t At Work
I have been noticing that President Duterte has been doing good castigating businessmen who are not playing by the rules – the right and most appropriate rules. And for that kudos must be given.
For example, when people complained about alleged pilferages in airports, he immediately punished the operator – MIASCOR. While to some this maybe a harsh punishment but to a lot, public service must not be inconvenienced. So President Duterte did what he could and asked his officials to not renew contract.
The strong-willed resolve to rid of corruption in the Philippines was again displayed recently with the filing of smuggling charges against port operator Asian Terminal Inc. The company along with some of its officials and several customs brokers allegedly released 105 containers worth close to Php70 million pesos.
Bureau of Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapena said “We will make sure that importers, brokers and arrastre operators who blatantly violated Customs rules and regulations will face legal action and revocation of Customs accreditation. The BOC shall remain vigilant and will continue to carry on the fight against those who disrespect and disregard the rule of law”.
The next question that people are asking now is will the fate of ATI be similar with MIASCOR? Or will it be different?
